We Are Okay - Nina LaCour (July)

Genres: Young Adult, LGBTQ, Contemporary

It's not often that a book makes me cry. And if it does, it's usually only a little - my eyes will water, or there might be a tear or two. But this book had me sobbing. We Are Okay by Nina LaCour was both beautiful and devistating. It was a highly character driven novel about depression that takes place over the span of about three days, following a girl named Marin. She's currently in college, after running away from everything she knows after her grandfather died (her mother died when she was very young and she never knew her father). But now her best friend who she hasn't spoken to in months is coming to visit. I don't really know how else to explain this book apart from the fact that it was beautifully written and felt very lonely, but also hopeful. I would recommend this book to someone who loves books that are introspective, character focused, and emotional.
